Announcing a Call for Scores

The Houston Brass Quintet is excited to announce our third annual call for new works for our 2023/2024 season!

Project guidelines
New work for standard brass quintet (12 minute maximum duration)
Two trumpets, French horn, trombone, tuba (trumpets can double on A/Bb piccolo trumpet, Eb trumpet, flugelhorn)
Scores MAY include:
Multimedia elements such as video, audio processing/electronics, images, text, or other interactive elements
Collaborative elements such as percussion, vocal, piano, or organ are also welcome
Composers of all nationalities, age, gender, ability, or sexual orientation are encouraged to apply

SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS
Pay $20 application fee here
Submit the following items via email to houstonbrassquintet@gmail.com with the subject heading “HBQ Call for Scores – YOUR NAME”. Messages without this subject line may not be received.
PDF of complete score and parts to your piece
A short statement detailing your vision for the work
Expected duration of work (12 minute maximum duration)
Other pertinent information that will help explain your vision for the work
Copy of application fee receipt from HBQ

Multiple submissions are welcome, but each must be submitted as a separate application
Any submission after January 1, 2023 will not be accepted
You will receive an email confirming that your application fee and materials have been received

Notifications
After submissions have been reviewed, the Houston Brass Quintet will select up to three composers with whom to collaborate, and their works will be performed and recorded (during the live performance) on our 2023/2024 season.

Selected composers will be notified by March 1, 2023
If possible, the winning composers are encouraged to attend the performance of their piece. Although a stipend for travel and lodging cannot be provided, HBQ will assist with travel arrangements to and from the airport in Houston
HBQ can offer any documentation that might assist those seeking funding from institutions or outside sources
HBQ reserves the right to keep your submitted materials for future programming considerations
